What is a Gemstone Round table?
It is part education, part treasure hunt and all fun. The recipe is simple. Begin with the company of interesting people, add good food and drink, sprinkle liberally with loose colored gemstones, and garnish with the lore and history of each stone.
How does it work?
Remember when you were a kid and called dibs on something you liked? That’s what happens at a Collectors’ Round table. Guests call “dibs” on their favorite stones.
You can purchase an heirloom-quality gemstone in a wide range of prices and discuss jewelry design at the Round table, but there is no pressure to buy.
We want you to have a good time, learn more about your favorite gemstones, and experience nature’s masterpieces in ways few people ever do.
Why is it fun?
This is literally a hands-on event. The gems are passed around the table while Jim shares information about each gem’s history, nuances, and the intricacies of its cut.
It’s a unique opportunity to learn more about these natural wonders.

Tucson or bust … for two weeks every year, in late January and early February, Tucson becomes the number one playground for the world of international gem and mineral trading. The “Gem Show” sounds like a single site, but the Tucson Gem, Mineral and Fossil Showcase happens all across Tucson at more than 40 sites. This year I traveled to Tucson to explore the offerings of some of the finest stonecutters and gem dealers in the world. Among my favorites was the exhibit hall featuring the stonecutters from the Idar-Oberstein region of Germany. Here gemstones come to life carved in the images of flowers, animals, abstract art – almost anything one can imagine. The beauty of the gemstones and artistry of the cutters meld and inspire a myriad of ideas about jewelry design. Watch for Paula’s new creations later this year!

“I’m a green girl,” says award- winning jewelry designer Paula Dawkins. Her 2015 collection unveiled this month is all about color – voluptuous gemstones in vivid colors taking center stage. Paula was inspired by nature to create this year’s designs.
Ever since she has been designing jewelry, Paula dreamt of having complete end-to-end creative and production control over her designs. Now she has. All under one roof at their store on 63 Haywood Street in Asheville. “If I am designing for a client and have to send the piece out to be finished, it takes longer, costs more, and it is harder to make additional changes.” By investing in the latest equipment, including a new 3D printer, Paula can now create and produce all of her own work keeping control over each phase from conception to the finished product, ensuring the integrity and quality of her designs.
Jewels That Dance store manager, Marlene Clevenger, successfully completed the TCS New York City Marathon on November 1. Along with about 50,000 other runners, she got to climb 5 bridges and visit all 5 boroughs of New York City – on foot.
