Happy Mother’s Day

May 8, 2017 By bm-admin

Paula and her Mom, circa 1995

Life doesn’t come with a manual, it comes with a mother!

We, at Jewels That Dance, honor all you mothers, you supermoms, you stepmoms, you mothers of community and of course, Mother Earth.

Here’s just a little background about the day…

During the ancient annual Greek spring festival the Greeks honored Rhea, the mother of many deities of Greek mythology. The Romans celebrated a spring festival called Hilaria dedicated to Cybele, a mother goddess. Celebrations honoring the Mother permeate our worldwide collective narrative. In the United States a precursor to Mother’s Day came from abolitionist and suffragette Julia Ward Howe who wrote a “Mother’s Day Proclamation” in 1870 as a call to action that asked mothers to unite in promoting world peace. Mother’s Day was officially adopted as a holiday in this country in 1914 when Woodrow Wilson signed a measure officially establishing the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.

Enjoy Your Day!

The Gemstone Roundtable

March 17, 2017 By bm-admin

We had such a good time at our Gemstone Roundtable last spring; we’re scheduling another Roundtable event on April 29th and 30th, 2017.  The Roundtable Event is destined to become Asheville North Carolina’s premier jewelry event.   Mark your calendars now and sign up with us for the date you’d like to attend.  Please don’t wait too long, as we only have room for eighteen guests at each roundtable.

GREAT FOOD, GREAT WINE AND A GREAT TIME

The Gemstone Roundtable is a two and a half hour event filled with delectable hors d’oeuvres, great wine, laughter and the opportunity to see, hold and learn about more gemstones than most people see in a lifetime.  Jim and Pat Alger, American Gem Trade Association members and our favorite gemstone dealers, pass stones around the table while describing each stone’s history, nuances and intricacies.  As the gemstones pass around the table, Paula can describe possible designs and encourage each guest to imagine how the gems might be set or worn.  We invite every guest to have a good time in this relaxed social atmosphere, while learning more about their favorite gemstones. The Gemstone Roundtable is an experience that allows each participant the chance to develop a personal relationship with a gemstone expert and a local designer.   Please join us for this unique and entertaining experience.

56 is a Perfect Number

November 3, 2016 By bm-admin

56 ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECES
that are
Perfect For You!

Each piece has its own unique story

Jewels That Dance has just unveiled 56 exquisite ONE-OF-A-KIND pieces of fine jewelry, available right now in its Haywood Street store in Downtown Asheville. Award-winning jewelry designer Paula Dawkins says this is the first time in her decades of designing jewelry where every single piece is unique. “I was able to work with gemstones that I love and use them in entirely new ways.” Paula also designed pieces that are solely made of precious metals.

Some of Paula’s designs were inspired by gemstones she has held for years, just waiting for the right opportunity to create a beautiful piece of jewelry. Others were based on sketches she made years ago awaiting the right time to create that one perfect piece. The number 56 is twice a perfect number, and it is also a collection of beautiful and original one-of-a-kind jewelry designs that will complement your collection.

Paula’s designs were crafted into their finished form by the talented team at Jewels That Dance. All of their work is done in-house – from concept to completion. That alone makes them unique among jewelry stores in western North Carolina.

What is a Gemstone Round table?

It is part education, part treasure hunt and all fun. The recipe is simple. Begin with the company of interesting people, add good food and drink, sprinkle liberally with loose colored gemstones, and garnish with the lore and history of each stone.

How does it work?

Remember when you were a kid and called dibs on something you liked? That’s what happens at a Collectors’ Round table. Guests call “dibs” on their favorite stones.

You can purchase an heirloom-quality gemstone in a wide range of prices and discuss jewelry design at the Round table, but there is no pressure to buy.

We want you to have a good time, learn more about your favorite gemstones, and experience nature’s masterpieces in ways few people ever do.

Why is it fun?

This is literally a hands-on event. The gems are passed around the table while Jim shares information about each gem’s history, nuances, and the intricacies of its cut.

It’s a unique opportunity to learn more about these natural wonders.
